Tour Overview

Materuni is one of the few villages of the Chagga tribe that has preserved its authentic culture and lifestyle. Located on the green foothills of Mount Kilimanjaro, it offers a refreshing escape with its tall waterfalls and organic coffee plantations.

Your day begins with a short scenic drive followed by a guided walk through lush vegetation and local farms. You'll reach the spectacular Materuni Waterfall—one of the tallest in the region—where you can relax or take a refreshing swim in its glacier-fed pool. After the hike, you'll join a local family for a hands-on coffee experience and a traditional Chagga lunch.

The Experience

Village Walk, Waterfall & Coffee

After arriving in Materuni village, we take a 40-50 minute hike through tropical rainforest and coffee gardens. Your local guide will explain the medicinal uses of local plants and the history of the Chagga people.

The highlight is the 80-meter high waterfall. Its crystal clear water is a refreshing natural shower. After enjoying the scenery and perhaps a swim, we head back to the village for the coffee tour.

In the Coffee Experience, you will participate in the entire process: roasting, pounding, and brewing your own cup of organic Kilimanjaro coffee. This is accompanied by traditional songs and dances that make for a truly joyful atmosphere.
